Barriere & the Lower North Thompson Area

Experience down-home, Canadian hospitality in the Lower North Thompson and Barriere. Come for fishing and geocaching, learn to talk with horses on a ranch stay, and stick around for the fall fair and rodeo during the Labour Day long weekend every year. In the winter there’s ice fishing, snowmobiling, and exploring the backcountry on snowshoes or cross-country skis.

Barriere's Parks

Barriere has a number of parks located within its boundaries. Most central is Fadear Park, located in the heart of the town between Barriere Town Road and Airfield Road.  Fadear Park houses a beautiful Bandshell with washrooms, "Splash in the Past" Splash Pad/Spray Park, a playground, outdoor exercise equipment, Community Garden, Ball Fields, pathways, a story walk, both open and covered picnic areas, plenty of green space and a new skatepark for skateboarding enthusiasts!

On the other side of Airfield Rd., across from Fadear Park, is Community Park. This park is next to Barriere's Elementary School and houses 2 more ball fields, a fieldhouse with washroom facilities, a concession available for use during special events, picnic areas, a dog park, stunning willow trees, benches with views overlooking the Barriere River, trails, an out-door multi-use court for tennis, pickle-ball (and sometimes an ice-rink which is maintained by volunteers in the winter.)

Both Oriole Park and Bradford Park are smaller, neighbourhood parks that both possess a small playground, open green space and benches.

All of Barriere's parks permit dogs - ON LEASHES.  Please pick up after your dog. There are multiple bag dispensaries and waste receptacles in all of our parks. Please practice responsible dog ownership by not permitting your dog to approach other dogs or people unless invited; no matter how friendly your dog is.

A hidden gem is Barriere's Bike Park that was constructed entirely by volunteer BMX biking enthusiasts.  This park is tucked away beside AG Foods off of Barriere Town Road and Armour Rd.
