Road Maintenance and Conditions

The District of Barriere has a new Winter Road Maintenance Provider starting in 2021:  Borrow Contracting Enterprises Ltd.

"Mr. Burrow is excited to be part of the town and he realizes he'll be new and there will be some trial and error as they get used to the roads and learn the routes. It won't be perfect right off the bat, but when the snow flies, they will be there." - Bob Payette, CAO

The District's municipal roads are rated as Priority 1, 2 and 3 roads. Priority 1 roads are the main corridor roads, including Barriere Town Road and the school bus routes. Priority 2 roads are most of the rest of the local roads. Priority 3 roads have few, if any, houses on them.

Snow removal inquiries, issues, complaints and comments can be made directly with Borrow Enterprises:

To facilitate snow removal, please do not leave vehicles parked or standing on a public roadway during snow/potential snow events. This ensures crews can completely clear the streets of snow and that large emergency vehicles can get down the street safely.

Please do not deposit snow on residential streets. Pushing or blowing snow onto or across roadways creates unsafe conditions for drivers and pedestrians. It can also cause damage to equipment and the road surface itself.

We also ask parents to remind their children to be aware of snow plowing operations and the hazards posed by winter driving conditions such as reduced visibility and increased stopping distances required for vehicles.

Please be a good neighbour and consider the safety of road users and crews.

Thank you for your co-operation and drive safe!
